Charleston County Government announces a continuation of a previous traffic alert regarding nighttime lane closures for the Bees Ferry Road Widening Project in West Ashley so workers can finish installing a drainage structure:
- Nighttime lane closures will continue through Monday, Nov. 26 between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on U.S. Highway 17 (also known as Savannah Highway) near the Bees Ferry Road intersection.
- Workers will direct traffic through the closures.
- One lane in each direction will remain open at all times.
- The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph within the work area.
- All road work is dependent on weather. If the weather is poor this week, work will continue on the next weather-permitting night.
Drivers traveling through the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area at all times. The public is also asked to notice traffic control signs, reductions in speed limit and message board information.
The goal of the project, which is expected to be completed April 2014, is to make improvements to the entire 4.5 mile length of Bees Ferry Road from U.S. Highway 17 (Savannah Highway) to Ashley River Road (S.C. 61). The project was requested by the City of Charleston and was funded by the Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax Program. Partial funding for the project was approved by voters in the second Transportation Sales Tax bond referendum.
