Avondale 5K Tops $40,000 Raised
Fundraiser brought in more than $40,000 for the Charles Webb Center
Now in its third year, the Avondale 5K raised more than $40,000 this time around for the Charles Webb Center.
A new format allowing participants to form teams and raise money to sponsor specific children receiving services at the Webb Center, contributed to an increase of more than $13,000 over last year's total. Several teams raised in excess of $1,000. Team "I Heart Anna Blake" raised more than any other team.
The top overall finishers were Tommy Clarke at 17:37.192, Clay Askew at 18:00.903 and Mark Enterline at 19:19:946, all three from Charleston. Emily Lasater of Chattanooga, Tenn., was the first female runner across the finish line and finished fifth overall at 19:30.673 The full results are available on Avondale5K.com.

Since the race is open to canine competitors as well as human ones, race organizers also had a prize for the first two pooches to finish the race as well. Wreck ran the course in 24:56.006 with owner Becky Clemmons of John's Island. Bella finished just behind him at 24:57.029 with owner Sean Weber of Charleston.
