Cars Pulled From Rantowles Creek

On Tuesday the Charleston County Sheriff's Office began the process of removing the two cars found in Rantowles Creek on Monday

UPDATE 6:15 p.m.: The Charleston County Sheriff's Office finished removing the cars found submerged in Rantowles Creek near the Peter Miller Bridge around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

According to a statement from Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Mjr. James Brady, only two cars were found at the location, however investigators initially thought a third vehicle was also submerged at the location.

The first car removed has been identified as a Honda model car, however the other is too deteriorated to determine what type of car it is, Brady said.

3:17 p.m.: Boats, divers and tow trucks spent hours Tuesday connecting and hoisting the three vehicles that were found in Rantwoles on Monday.

A 75-ton capacity heav-duty tow truck from North Charleston was needed at Peter Miller Bridge to do the heavy lifting while members of the Charleston County Sheriff's Office Dive Team spent the day in the water connectig the tow cables to the submerged vehicles.

The first of the three cars emerged from the water around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday covered in mud and oysters. No glass remained in the vehicle, a small compact hatchback. It was placed upside down on a flatbed tow truck after the heavy-duty wrecker dragged it out of the mud and water in a process that took more than an hour.

Once the first car was out the dive team went back to work securing the cables to the second of the three vehicles.
