An internal power issue to blame, Sheriff says not a threat to the community

Update: Effective 2:55 p.m. the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center has returned to normal operations, the power issue has been resolved.

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office notified media outlets that the Al Cannon Detention Center is currently on lockdown at 2:15 p.m. Friday.

The Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center is currently in lockdown due to an internal power issue. At this time there is no safety concern. Charleston County Deputies and North Charleston Police are on the outside perimeter as a precaution, but reiterate there are no threats to the facility, inmates or jail staff.
