Here are the top three stories in Charleston today:

  1. The City of Charleston has qualified to spend federal funds to build a pedestrian bridge over the Ashley River. The bridge is meant to improve pedestrian safety. The bridge would be under half a mile in length. The funding milestone will provide $18.1 million in federal funds to the project. Construction could start next year in April or May. (Live 5 News WCSC)
  2. The Charleston Animal Society has been named a finalist in the Land Rover "Defender Service Awards." The recognition was given for the organization's lifesaving work that impacted 15,000 animals last year. If the organization wins the award, a Land Rover Defender will be given to the organization for animal disaster response efforts. (ABC NEWS 4)
  3. The North Charleston Police Department has arrested a man for allegedly shooting at a juvenile. Terry Carter, 34, was arrested near Pine Field Court and River Avenue after a juvenile claimed that he shot at him. The juvenile identified Carter, who has been charged with attempted murder. (WCBD News 2)
