City Wants to Take Over Completion of I-526

Charleston City Council members approved a motion to seek control of the completion of I-526 Tuesday night

It's no secret Charleston Mayor Joe Riley wants to see I-526 finished.

Tuesday night 11 Charleston City Council members went on the record agreeing with him. The Council voted 11-2 on a motion that would see Charleston take the reins on the long-delayed and controversial project, according to WCBD News2.

Council members Blake Hallman and Dudley Gregorie opposed the move, but it's unclear if the city's motion will have any affect, as the fate of I-526 currently rests with the Charleston County Council. State lawmakers sent the issue back to the county earlier this year.
