Police: Daughter's Revenge Plot Goes Awry When Cops Arrive
Charleston Police say a James Island woman's plan to heap additional trouble on her father following an alleged break-in was fouled up when a concerned neighbor reported suspicious activity.

Charleston Police officers arrived early Sunday morning at a home on Chipley Terrace on James Island to what appeared to be a burglary in progress.
Four people were coming in and out of the home when officers arrived at 4:08 a.m. on Feb. 24. The front window had been smashed in and inside clothes, furniture and other household items were strewn about and covered in sprays of condiments from the refrigerator and hair products from the bathroom, according to the police incident report.
Two men were initially charged with burglary and malicious damage to property. However, the burglary charges were dropped after further investigation revealed the resident of the home, who was one of the four people on scene when police arrived, had asked the men to go inside and carry out the vandalism.

It turned out that the resident had a disagreement with her father, who had been living with her at the home but had beenkicked him out, CPD Public Information Officer Charles Francis said. The woman's father allegedly broke into the home earlier that day, and she had asked the two men to do additional damage to the home before she reported the break-in to police in order to get her father into more trouble.
A concerned neighbor noticed people going in and out of the home in the early morning hours Sunday and called 9-1-1 before the group had finished vandalizing the allegedly already burglarized home, Francis said. Police are still investigating the alleged burglary, Francis added.
