Deputies: Man Beat Woman, Set House on Fire
North Charleston man charged in Saturday fire in West Ashley.
A North Charleston man faces arson and aggravated domestic violence charges after sheriff's deputies allege he beat a woman and then set her West Ashley home on fire.
Deputies allege Vantrez Grant, 33, set the Hillside Drive home on fire Saturday afternoon just after beating the woman, according to a sheriff's news release. The woman fled the home, but Grant reportedly sent threatening text messages and then sent the woman a photo of the burning home.
Grant was arrested at the scene of the fire, according to Major James Brady, the sheriff's spokesman. He faces a bond hearing this evening on third-degree arson charges and aggravated criminal domestic violence charges.
