Here are the top three stories in Charleston today:
- The Charleston Place is hosting a high tea on Sep. 19 to honor Queen Elizabeth II. The "Crown Tea" event will be at the Thoroughbred Club at noon. There will be a $65 cost per person in attendance. A selection of treats and a glass of Bollinger Champagne will be offered to participants. Tickets for the event can be purchased here. (Subscription: Charleston Post Courier)
- Charleston's Dunkin' locations will be giving away free Gold Joy Donuts for every two-dollar donation made towards MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital. All of the donations will be used to support arts, music, and integrated therapy programs for children battling cancer. The promotion is running through Sunday at participating locations for National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. (WCBD News 2)
- The Charleston City Council has voted to approve additional funding for the Emanuel Nine Memorial. The two-million-dollar funding will be used to build a survivors garden, fountain, and courtyard. The names of the nine individuals who were murdered during bible study seven years ago will be engraved on the fountain's edge. The city provided the funding for the project in 2021. (ABC NEWS 4)
