Escaped Prisoner Recaptured in West Ashley
Charleston Police and SC Department of Corrections officers tracked down an escaped prisoner at Georgetown Apartments

Charleston Police helped the SC Department of Corrections track down an escaped prisoner in West Ashley early Friday.
Travis Lee Hammit had allegedly escaped from the Coastal Pre-release center on Leeds Avenue on Thursday. The search centered on Georgetown Apartments where members of Hammit's family reside, according to a Charleston Police Department report. Hammit was recaptured around 2:30 a.m. Friday.
A family member told officers Hammit had come to the apartment on Thursday asking for money to pay for a taxi to Summerville, but the family member refused, and believed Hammit was still in the area because he had no money or mobile phone, the report stated.

Hammit was located hiding between the pool house and an adjoining fence, according to the report.
Officials at the pre-release center noticed Hammit was missing at 9:30 p.m. Thursday when he missed the nightly inmate count, Live5News reports. Hammit will likely face additional prison time, he was convicted of second degree burglary and was up for parole this year.
