- A great white shark named Keji was pinged off the coast of Charleston yesterday morning around 11:00 a.m. The shark was tagged – and has been tracked since – by the nonprofit organization OCEARCH in Nova Scotia in September 2021. Keji reportedly weighs 578 pounds and is nine feet and seven inches long. (WCBD News 2)
- A special election will be held on Feb. 7, 2023, to fill a vacancy on the Charleston County School Board. The open seat comes from candidate Erica Cokley, who won the race for the District 6 seat but withdrew after the election. Interested candidates who want to run for the spot will have until Dec. 12 to file with the Charleston County Board of Elections. (WCBD News 2)
- The City of North Charleston is giving $1.2 million in grants to reduce gun violence in the community. The Gun Violence Reduction Grants program awarded $100,000 to 12 nonprofits to aid in programs to help reduce gun violence. (Live 5 News WCSC)
