Here are the top three stories today in Charleston:
- Researchers in the Gadsden Green neighborhood are measuring temperature levels to determine how heat impacts the community's health. The effort is a collaboration between 11 different organizations - including the City of Charleston. The Charleston Heat Health Research Project is being funded by NOAA. (Live 5 News WCSC)
- Wednesday's "Light The Way For Hope" event educated the community on Narcan administration while honoring those lost to the Opioid Crisis. According to the Charleston Center's program coordinator, the Tri-County area lost 330,000 residents to the crisis last year. The Mount Pleasant Police Chief spoke during the event. (ABC NEWS 4)
- The City of Charleston has announced its new Director of Emergency Management. Ben Almquist previously worked for Berkley County as its Director of Emergency Management before becoming Charleston's on Aug. 8. According to Almquist, his first order of business will be assessing the department's current operations. (WCBD News 2)
