James Island Students Charged in Alleged Bomb Plot

Two James Island Charter High School students are in custody at the Charleston County Juvenile Detention Center following a bomb scare at the school Monday

Charleston Police say two James Island Charter High School students have been charged with conspiracy to commit a felony after another student overheard them planning to blow up the school, according to a Charleston Police statement.

Both students, a 14-year-old male and a 14-year-old female, are being held at the Charleston County Juvenile Detention Center.

On Friday, another student allegedly overheard the pair discussing a plan to blow up the school. That student told a parent about the plot and that parent reported it to the school Friday evening.

On Monday, the school principal informed police about the call and the students were taken to Police Headquarters on Lockwood Boulevard and interviewed by detectives. Police also shut down the high school Monday to search for explosives. None were found at the school or at the home of either teen, according to a statement. Police did confiscate computers and mobile phones from the teens.
