John's Island Man Charged in Area Robbery

A John's Island man is facing armed robbery and kidnapping charges in connection with a recent robbery at a West Ashley hotel

Charleston Police charged Damien Lee Rivers, 21, of 3358 Habitat Blvd., Johns Island, with armed robbery and kidnapping on Thursday, according to statement.

Rivers is accused of taking part in the . According to the police report, three men, at least one of which was armed with a handgun, entered the open door of the hotel room and held the victim at gunpoint while they searched the room and stole $10,500 cash.

Police also found approximately five grams of cocaine in a plastic bag in the room and charged the victim, Jackie Neal Bentley, 42, of Bel Air, Md., with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

A bond hearing for Rivers is scheduled for Friday. Investigators continue to look for two other suspects in the robbery. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Charleston Police at 577-7434.
