Making a Doughnut Run Takes on New Meaning

300 runners hit the West Ashley Greenway Saturday for the 3rd Annual Charleston Doughnut Run

How long would it take you to run a 5K on a stomach full of Krispy Kremes?

Zack Kratchke, the first to cross the finish line at the 3rd Annual Charleston Doughnut Run, did it in 25 minutes 35 seconds. Kratchke took home the Great Golden Doughnut Saturday after running 2.5K from in South Windemere Shopping Center to on Savannah Highway, scarfed down a dozen glazed doughnuts and ran back in less than half an hour, and he only beat the second place finisher by a second.

In all 302 people signed up to run in the 5K that benefits Sidewalk Chalk, a local charity that works with area schools to provide creative writing programs and publish the student work.

Most of the runners formed teams for the event, which allowed them to split the dozen glazed Krispy Kremes at the half-way point. The first team to finish was the two-man team of Smile Like a Doughnut, made up of Stefan Feidler and Modibor Fullah, both of whom finished in less than 30 minutes.
