Murder Charge Filed in Waffle House Shooting

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office has filed a murder charge against a Ravenel man in connection with a July 15 shooting that killed one person at the Waffle House near Hollywood.

Deonte Steven Brown, 19, of 6051 Lot #44 Roper Run Road Ext., Ravenel, now faces a murder charge in connection with a J, according to a Charleston County Sheriff's Office statement.

, which began as an altercation inside the restaurant. The Sheriff's Office alleges Brown shot a 28-year-old victim inside the restaurant during the altercation, and then fired another shot outside the restaurant striking a second victim, 19-year-old Dantaye Reed of Ravenel. Reed died from the wound while being transported to MUSC.

The Sheriff's Office statement reports that a SLED investigation determined that both bullets were fired from the same gun, and that Brown was the only person involved in the altercation that was armed at the time. The 28-year-old victim also identified Brown as the shooter, according to the statement.

A bond hearing on the charge is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday.
