Pedestrian Killed in Morning Traffic

Traffic rerouted around scene of the accident at Savannah Highway and Wantoot Boulevard

CHARLESTON - A pedestrian was killed around 7 a.m. Monday near the intersection of Savannah Highway and Wantoot Boulevard after being struck by a car.

51-year-old West Ashley resident, Maria McIntosh was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Charleston County Coroner's Office. The cause of her death was blunt force trauma.

Charleston Police responded and directed traffic around the accident scene slowing the morning rush hour traffic through the area. They are investigating the cause of the accident, according to a police statement.
