Phony Roof Inspectors Suspected of Stealing from James Island Home

A man and woman claiming to be roof inspectors are suspected of stealing $550 from a James Island home

A woman living on Yale Drive is out $550 after she let two people who claimed to be roof inspectors inside her home Saturday, according to a Charleston County Sheriff's Office report.

The woman noticed a strange man in her backyard Saturday afternoon and asked what he was doing there. The man, described as a white male, age 54-55, 5-feet, 8-inches tall, weighing approximately 225 pounds, with brown hair that is long in the back, told her was on the property inspecting the building's roof, the report stated.

Shortly after speaking with the man a woman rang the victim's doorbell and said she was there to take notes for the man in the backyard, and the victim let her into the home. The woman was described as white, age 54-55, 5-feet, 2-inches tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds with brown hair. The victim lost track of the woman when the "roof inspector" entered the home and spoke to the victim for a few minutes before leaving with the other woman in a tan vehicle.

After the pair had left, the victim found that a black wallet and $550 cash was missing from a drawer in her bedroom, according to the report.
