When he investigated the source of the voices he found a man on his porch who then proceeded to open the sliding glass back door. At that point the resident called 911 and escaped with his family through a bedroom window.
When police arrived they found the intruder asleep on the couch. He told officers a friend dropped him off at the house, told him it belonged to another friend, and that he could sleep there because the man was too drunk to go home. Officers instead provided the man with a bunk in jail on a trespassing charge, according to the report.

Cooper Thief Leaves Grocer Hot Under the Collar
CHARLESTON - Around 6 a.m. Saturday Sept. 10, someone removed about 200 feet of 1 and 3/8 in. copper tubing from the roof of the Food Lion on Ashley Crossing Drive, according to a Charleston Police Department report.
The tubing carried the coolant to all of the grocer's refrigeration units which began to fail around 6:45 that morning. Store employees were alerted to the problem by the computer that monitors the refrigeration units and sent someone up to find out why all of the units had stopped working.
The copper tubing is valued at about $400, but the cost of the food that spoiled because of a lack of refrigeration is thousands of dollars, the report stated. According to the report the only way to access the store roof is through a back stockroom and no one had worked in the store overnight.
Fire Station Fun Lands Woman in Jail
CHARLESTON - "So I wanted to have some fun with the firefighters, shoot me," a woman told a Charleston Police officer after he arrested her for disorderly conduct at the Charleston Fire Department station on Old Towne Road Tuesday, Sept. 13 around 10 p.m.
According to the incident report documenting the arrest, the woman narrowly missed colliding with the flag pole in front of the fire station and left her car blocking one of the fire engines while she engaged the firefighters in a colorful conversation.
Saying she had run out of gas, allegedly for the second time that day, she waited at the station for AAA to bring her some fuel and in the meantime told the firefighters she wanted some sausage, and asked "if they had short and thick or long and skinny sausages?" She went on to ask them to drop their pants and told them she wanted to "do cocaine," the report states.
The Firefighters told the officer they were concerned for the woman's safety.
