Police Investigating Several Area Assaults

While violent crime has been declining in Charleston for the past few years according to police crime data, but reported assaults in West Ashley are still keeping officers busy.

Early Tuesday around 1:20 a.m. a woman was attacked outside her home on Bees Ferry Road after someone she thought was a friend invited her to hang out via text message, according to a police report. She was expecting that friend and a former boyfriend, but when her friend's car arrived another woman got out and attacked her. The victim told police she thought the assault was over the former boyfriend.

On Monday police responded to another assault report at the Sunoco on Ashley River Road, according to a police report. The victim told police a black male wearing a red t-shirt approximately 16-22 years old walked up to him outside the gas station, told the victim that he owed something to the assailant's friend and hit him in the side of the head with a stick. The assailant later threw a beer bottle at the victim before leaving the area. The victim told police that he assault may have had something to do with money he owed for drugs.

On Saturday police responded to several assaults in West Ashley.

Another assault potentially connected to a relationship gone bad occurred around 1:30 a.m. Saturday outside of the Family Dollar on Savannah Highway, according to another police report. A man told police he was outside the store when a dark colored SUV pulled up and two men jumped out and attacked him. He escaped with minor injuries, but told officers that he and his wife were separating and he thought the attackers are friends of his wife. One was described as a white male between 5-feet 7-inches and 5-feet 8-inches tall, weighing 140-150 pounds, with brown hair and facial hair, with a muscular build, and he was wearing a green t-shirt. The other assailant was described as a black male between 5-feet 8-inches and 5-feet 9-inches tall, 175-185 pounds with light colored skin and closely cut hair and was wearing a dark colored shirt.

About three hours later police were called to Palmetto Point Apartments on Dogwood Road for an assault involving a curling iron, according to another police report. The victim told officers she was sleeping when an acquaintance jumped on top of her and attacked her with a curling iron then fled the apartment. A witness told police the two women had been arguing prior to the assault.

Also before dawn on Saturday a man called police after he was stabbed following a family dispute at the Hess Station on Savannah Highway, according to a separate report. He told police he had been arguing with his aunt earlier that day because she wanted to evict him from her apartment. The argument was rekindled at the gas station when he ran into his aunt and her boyfriend, following a short altercation he was bleeding from a stab wound.

Police were also called to a domestic violence assault outside of the Habitat for Humanity Restore on Savannah Highway Saturday afternoon at 2:37, according to another report. The victim told officers when she asked the father of her child for $20 to buy lunch he became irate and dragged her out of her car by her hair, then proceeded to punch and kick her before running off.
