Police Release Photo of Suspected Car Thief

Car left running in parking lot stolen

A West Ashley man's car was stolen Wednesday night after he left it running in a parking lot, while he rented a movie through a Red Box vending machine at the store, according to a Charleston Police report.

The theft occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m., according to the report. The man told officers he left his black, 1998 Ford Explorer running while he rented the movie, and that while he was not looking someone jumped in his car and drove off. The vehicle is valued at $2,000.

The vehicle was last seen headed southbound on Savannah Highway.

Police on Thursday released a CVS surveillance image of the man believed to have taken the Explorer.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Charleston Police at 577-7434 or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
