Rain Didn't Dampen Spirits at rUNdead

Despite the wet and windy weather Charleston's first rUNdead 5K was a success.

Zombies don't care about the rain.

Hundreds of people descended on Old Town Creek Park, Charleston County's newest park in West Ashley, for the first rUNdead 5K. The sold out event raised thousands of dollars for the Lowcountry Food Bank, and despite a wet and windy Saturday, the run went off without a hitch.

Event organizer Ben-Jamin Toy with On Purpose Adventures, said most runners were turning times about 10 minutes longer than their average 5K due to a number of obstacles scattered along the race course, and of course the more than 100 zombies infesting the course.

Plans are already in the works to make rUNdead an annual event, though Toy said he wasn't sure if the race would remain at the same location.

"We've already kind of maxed out this location, so next year, I don't know, maybe we can look at busing people in," Toy said. "We sold out 17 days before the race."
