A man staying at a West Ashley hotel was arrested Tuesday after Police showed up to investigate the armed robbery he reported

A man staying in a West Ashley hotel learned the hard way that when calling the police to report a crime it is best to dispose of any evidence of one's own criminal activity before they arrive.

On Tuesday, according to a Charleston Police Department report, a man staying in a room at the on Savannah Highway called police to report being robbed at gunpoint.

The man told officers three black men, at least one of which was armed with a gun walked into his room through the open door and stole $10,500 from him. When the officers processed the scene of the crime they found evidence of other criminal activity, approximately 5 grams of cocaine and other drug paraphernalia, the report stated. The robbery victim was then charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
