Sam Rittenberg, Ashley River Road Improvements Meeting Thursday
Charleston County Government is hosting a public meeting Thursday to take public comments on proposed intersection improvements for the Ashley River Road/Sam Rittenberg Boulevard intersection

Charleston County Government invites residents and business owners to a public information meeting about the SC-7 (Sam Rittenberg Boulevard)/SC-61 (Ashley River Road) Intersection Improvements Project. The meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18 from 6-8 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center (1645 Raoul Wallenberg Boulevard; Charleston, SC 29407).
Details on the Oct. 18 public meeting:
- Drop-in format beginning at 6 p.m. with a brief presentation about the project
- Engineering and right of way personnel will be available to answer questions.
- See displays of the proposed design for the project.
- Opportunity to submit comments in writing on the proposed design.
The official public comment period will be open beginning Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 and will remain open through Friday, Nov. 2, 2012. Those who attend the public meeting can submit comment forms in person at the meeting. Those who cannot attend the public meeting can submit comments as follows:

The goal of the project, which is funded by Charleston County’s Transportation Sales Tax, is to improve safety and provide relief from traffic congestion that is currently experienced at the intersection. The improvements will extend along SC-61 from Wallace School Road to Wappoo Road and along SC-7 from Gardner Road to Wappoo Road.Â

- Construction of an additional left turn lane on the northbound SC-61 approach (coming from Wappoo Road toward Sam Rittenberg Boulevard).
- Construction of an additional left turn lane on the southbound SC-61 approach (coming from Wallace School Road toward Sam Rittenberg Boulevard).
- Extension of the southbound right turn lane on SC-7 (coming from Wappoo Road toward SC-61).
- Lane width modifications to provide 11-foot thru lanes and 14-foot outside, shared-use lanes on SC-61 within the project limits.
- Driveway modifications within the project limits.
- Traffic signal timing improvements to the intersections within the project limits.
