Sheriff's Office Investigating Inmate Death

An inmate at the Al Cannon Detention Center died at MUSC Monday morning after he was found unresponsive in his cell

UPDATE: Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 3:48 p.m.: The Charleston County Coroner's office has identified the Al Cannon Detention Center inmate who died at MUSC Monday morning as Keith Rhue, 48.

The results of an autopsy performed on Rhue are still pending.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Charleston County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of an inmate at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

The man was found unresponsive in his cell around 4 a.m. at a housing unit in the detention center, according to a Sheriff's Office statement. Medical staff at the center evaluated the inmate and sent him to the Medical University of South Carolina after he appeared to suffer a seizure. The man later died at MUSC.

The Charleston County Coroner's office will be performing an autopsy, and the Sheriff's Office is considering it an open investigation.
