Stop Work Order Issued at Former Car Wash

Over the past few weeks construction crews have been refitting the old #1 Car Wash property at 1217 Savannah Hwy.

Employees at neighboring business told West Ashley Patch that construction workers said the property was being renovated for a new bar. However City of Charleston officials have no records of anyone applying for any building permits or business licenses for the property.

"The city has issued a stop work order," Charleston Director of Media Relations Barbara Vaughn said.

The property is within the Charleston City limits and any construction work there is supposed to be permitted by city officials. The old car wash property was featured in a on West Ashley Patch in March, and has been unused for several years.
