Thunderstorms, Flooding Snarl Commute
Heavy rain Wednesday night and early Thursday morning left several West Ashley streets flooded and knocked out traffic lights along major roads
Commuters faced standing water and flashing traffic signals Thursday morning following heavy rain overnight.
Parts of I-526 were closed Thursday morning during rush hour as standing water made driving hazardous near the interstate's terminus at Sam Rittenberg Boulevard and Savannah Highway, according to a statement released by Charleston Police Department Public Information Officer Charles Francis.
By 9:30 a.m. most of the waters had receded enough to allow to flow normally, however one section of I-526 Westbound between Sam Rittenberg Boulevard and Savannah Highway remained closed at the time.
