Trayvon Martin Vigil in Marion Square Tonight
Several local events are planned this week to call attention to the case of a Florida teen who was shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer

At sundown tonight hundreds of flickering candles will light up Marion Square at a Justice for Trayvon Martin rally.
It is one of several area events planned to shed light on the case of the Florida teen who was shot by a nieghborhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Fla. on Feb. 26. The shooter, George Zimmerman, a nieghborhood watch volunteer has claimed self defense and has not been charged.
Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law which states citizens who fear for their safety outside of their homes are not required to flee the situation and are justified in defending themselves, has been cited as the reason Zimmerman was not charged. Since the case gained national attention .

The U.S. Justice Department said it will investigate the case. On Monday the Orlando Sentinel reported that police sources and witness statements back up Zimmerman's claims of self defense. However the website Think Progress has compiled an extensive list of reporting on the story from various news sources that largely backs up the Martin Family's version of events.
On Wednesday a "Million Hoodie March" beginning at Marion Square is planned to begin at 5 p.m.
