Two Arrested for West Ashley Middle School Burglary

Charleston Police charged a 25-year-old Charleston man and an 18-year-old Lancaster woman in connection with the Sept. 30 burglary at West Ashley Middle School

A West Ashley man and a woman from Lancaster have been charged in the Sept. 30 burglary at West Ashley Middle School.

Ace Dominic Blakenship, 25, of 2040 Ashley River Road and Courtney Faith Moody, 18, of 3422 Amber Way, Lancaster, are both charged with burglary 2nd degree, according to a Charleston Police Department statement.

The pair are accused of breaking into the school around 4:30 a.m. Sept. 30. Surveillance cameras in the school captured video of a man and a woman wandering the halls and removing items from the teachers' lounge, though nothing was removed from school grounds, according to the incident report.

Last week Police distributed some images from the surveillance videos to area media asking residents to help identify the suspects. However Charleston Police Public Information Officer Charles Francis said the arrests did not come from a tip from the public, rather Blakenship contacted police about the burglary.

Both Blakenship and Moody were being held at Al Cannon Detention Center Thursday, according to a police statement.
