Voters Re-elect Aubry Alexander

Incumbent City Councilman Aubry Alexander wins another term with more than 80 percent of the vote

CHARLESTON - An overwhelming majority of voters in West Ashley's Old Charlestowne District decided to send Charleston City Council District 9 Representative, Aubry Alexander, back to the council for another term Tuesday.

With all precincts reporting Alexander crushed his challenger Bob Aubin 1,349 votes (83.22 percent) to 257 votes (15.85 percent). Voters also cast 15 write-in ballots (.93 percent).

Alexander said he was humbled by the support and is looking forward to seeing the Northbridge Park, slated for the area at the foot of the Cosgrove Bridge, finished and starting on new projects for his district.

He said his experience meeting and getting to know city residents in previous runs for council, serving as a neighborhood president and working as part of the Old Charlestowne District Task Force helped him in the polls.

"I walked every neighborhood in District 9," Alexander said. "I knew almost everyone who came to vote at Orange Grove Road."

Like many candidates, Alexander spent part of election day greeting voters as they arrived at polling places in his district to cast their votes.

"I think it is really important for voters to know their councilman, to be able to put a face with a name," Alexander said. "I'm very big on constituent service."

Alexander said he makes sure every time he meets constituents that they get his phone numbers and email contacts, so that they can contact him with any city-related issues they have.

"I always try to respond within 24 hours," he said.
