West Ashley Man Charged in Hazelwood Drive Burglary

The Charleston Police Department charged a Hazelwood Drive man with burglarizing one of his neighbors' apartments

Charleston Police charged Chauvez Williams, 28, of 1900 Hazelwood Drive, Apartment C4, with burglary — 1st degree in a Nov. 16 burglary at his apartment complex.

Police allege that Williams kicked in the door of a neighboring apartment at Orleans Garden Apartments and stole a rifle from inside around 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16. The residents of that apartment were at a local hospital when they received a phone call from an acquaintance (identified as Williams in a Charleston Police Department report on the burglary) asking if they were home.

When the residents returned home they found their front door had been kicked in and the rifle missing. A witness told police he had seen Williams exiting the apartment with the rifle, the report stated.
