West Ashley Search Nets 26 Ounces of Pot

Two men were arrested on drug charges Thursday following the search of a Gunn Avenue home

Charleston Police recovered three handguns, ammunition, a couple of cell phones, two digital scales and more than 26 ounces of marijuana after executing a search warrant at a Gunn Avenue home Thursday afternoon.

Bryan Beck, 30, and Stanley Bernard Edwards, Jr., 21, both of 1218 Gunn Ave. are charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute marijuana in close proximity to a school. A preschool is located behind the residence on Hobart Avenue, according to a Charleston Police Department report.

Edwards has also been charged with outstanding Charleston Police Department warrants for distribution of marijuana and distribution of marijuana in close proximity to a school.

The search focused on a shed behind the home at 1218 Gunn Ave., where officers allegedly found the bulk of the contraband, including two of the three guns that were seized. The third firearm was taken from Edwards when he was arrested.

Inside the shed, in addition to the weapons, the report states officers found 11 individually packed 1-ounce bags of marijuana, a large plastic bag containing 17 smaller 1-gram bags of marijuana, a second large plastic bag containing several smaller bags of marijuana weighing a total of 14 grams, another plastic bag containing 14 grams of marijuana, four large mason jars each holding approximately 65 grams of marijuana inside of a larger blue and black bag that also held three plastic bags each with one ounce of marijuana, two additional plastic bags containing a total of 22 grams of marijuana, a fifth large mason jar containing approximately an ounce of marijuana packaged in several small plastic bags, a smaller mason jar containing about seven grams of marijuana, two digital scales, a pair of mobile phones and several boxes of ammunition.

Officers also recovered approximately half a gram of marijuana from a plastic bag inside the home itself, along with a glass pipe and $620 in cash, according to the report.
