What Redistricting Means for You

Rep. Tim Scott lays out what has changed with new district lines for the First Congressional District in South Carolina

— by Tim Scott

As many of you know, earlier this year the South Carolina State Legislature set new boundaries for our state’s congressional districts. These changes have directly affected the First District, with Horry and Georgetown Counties moving to the new Seventh District, lines being adjusted in the tri-county area, and Beaufort County and Edisto Beach in Colleton County joining the First District.

My office will continue receiving casework and constituent requests from Horry and Georgetown Counties through the end of this year, and beginning in January Congressman-elect Tom Rice will begin handling inquiries from those two counties. If you live in Horry or Georgetown and have an open case my office is assisting you with, please make certain you have given permission to transfer your case to Congressman-elect Rice’s office in January. If you have not done so, please click here for the form. I am sure Mr. Rice will be a great representative for the new Seventh District, and it has been an honor to serve you the past two years. My door will always be open!

If you are from Beaufort County or Edisto Beach in Colleton County, welcome to the First District! I look forward to serving you in the 113th Congress, and we will begin constituent casework in your area starting in January. We will also be opening a district office in Beaufort County, with mobile office hours throughout the area, and will let you know the details as soon as they are final.

As for those of you in the tri-county area, thank you again for the opportunity to represent the First District in Washington. Our Charleston office will remain at its current location on Sam Rittenburg Boulevard. There have been minor changes to the district lines in the Charleston area as part of redistricting – please feel free to call my Charleston office for any questions you may have.

Again, thank you all for the opportunity to represent the First District in Congress. I take very seriously serving the needs of my Lowcountry neighbors, and I will continue working hard for you every single day.
