Wreck Closes Stretch of Sam Rittenberg Blvd.

A two-car wreck on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard closed a section of the road between Dupont and Ashley River roads Thursday afternoon

Charleston police officers spent about an hour Thursday afternoon directing traffic on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard foolowing a two-car accident.

A green Chevy SUV and a beige Nissan sedan were involved in the crash in front of at 1881 Sam Rittenberg Blvd.

A Bendt Bros. employee said though he did not see the wreck occur, the Nissan had just left the business after it installed new seat covers in the vehicle. He added that the driver of the SUV, which had flipped over, was able to get out of his vehicle and was walking around the scene shortly after the wreck.

One of the drivers was transported to St. Francis Hospital, according to a Police statement. The Charleston County Sheriff's Office, the Charleston Fire Department and EMS also responded to the scene.

Police closed a stretch of Sam Rittenberg between Dupont and Ashley River roads, diverting northbound traffic down Dupont Road to Savannah Highway for about an hour. Sam Rittenberg Boulevard was reopened to northbound traffic shortly after 1 p.m.
