DDSC Names Kiran Achen Chief Information and Digital Officer

Delta Dental of South Carolina – a leading dental benefits provider and non-profit organization operating in Columbia – has named Kiran Achen as the company’s chief information and digital officer. In this senior leadership role, he will direct the company’s information technology functions with a focus on digital transformation and driving operational efficiencies to optimize service for stakeholders and facilitate long-term growth.

Achen has 23 years of IT experience in the benefits industry. He is credited with leading and modernizing teams and diversifying applications to drive transformative solutions, business growth and value creation. He most recently served as chief information officer at Tokio Marine Highland in Chicago, where he directed all IT functions and delivered technology infrastructure and solutions that enabled substantial financial growth. Under his leadership, the company grew from $165 million gross written premium (GWP) in 2017, to more than $400 million in 2022. Prior to that role, he served in several ascending leadership positions during a decade-long tenure at CNA Insurance, where he led application development, enterprise architecture and digital strategy.

Achen earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business, a Master of Science degree in computer science from Northern Illinois University, a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Osmania University and has completed advanced technical/cross-functional business training curriculum. He holds many awards and honors, including the 2021 Chicago CIO of the Year ORBIE Award and the CNA Insurance Chairman’s CARE Award.
