Elderly resident rescued from house fire, five displaced (wach.com) — Columbia firefighters rescued an elderly wheelchair user from a house fire on Easter Street in the Greenview community, where five residents were displaced but no one was hurt. Crews battled heavy smoke in the kitchen, returned to help even after going off duty, and used firetrucks to keep residents warm while the cause remains under investigation.
   

2. A rumble through Columbia, a promise to veterans: you're not forgotten at Christmas (wltx.com) — Hundreds of bikers rumbled through Columbia to the Dorn VA Medical Center, delivering Christmas gifts and supplies to veterans who may spend the holidays in the hospital. The long-running Vets Christmas Charity Ride, now 25 years strong, focuses on making sure local veterans aren’t forgotten and brings together multiple generations of riders.
   

3. SC man runs 200 miles from Charleston to Columbia, raising money for kids to attend camp (abccolumbia.com) — An avid runner just finished a 200-mile trek from Charleston to Columbia, wrapping up at Waterfront Park with help from Richland County deputies escorting the final stretch. Michael Davis set out to raise $5,000 so local kids can attend Young Life Christian Camp but ended up bringing in about $11,000 thanks to community support.
   

4. Connect to the Capitol: Mace & Wilson spar, making SC healthy again (wach.com) — From Columbia, a new USDA-approved waiver will soon stop SNAP users in South Carolina from buying candy, sodas, and energy drinks with their benefits, a move state leaders say will improve health. The piece also recaps a heated back‑and‑forth between Rep. Nancy Mace and Attorney General Alan Wilson over her alleged outburst at Charleston International Airport.
