Mignon Clyburn, Daughter of Rep. Jim Clyburn, Named Acting Chair of FCC
She makes history in the process.

Mignon L. Clyburn, daughter of Rep. James Clyburn, became acting chair of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Monday.
In ascending to the position, Clyburn becomes the first female to head the organization.
Her interim tenure will end when Tom Wheeler, who was appointed by President Obama, is confirmed by Congress. That process is expected to take several months.

In her first public appearance at a trade show in Las Vegas, Clyburn said the FCC has a had a, “light regulatory touch, but have touched when necessary."
Clyburn is serving her second term on the FCC, where she began in August 2009. She had previously served as Public Service Commission’s sixth district for 11 years and was the chair from 2002-2004.

Hope Derrick, the spokesperson for Rep. Clyburn told Patch, "He is extremely proud of his daughter."
Clyburn is a USC graduate with a degree in Banking, Finance and Economics.
