• Uber launches ‘women preference' rides in South Carolina city (wbtw.com) — Uber has rolled out its new Women Preferences feature in Greenville, letting women riders, drivers, and teen accounts increase their chances of being matched with a woman driver for trips. The option, now expanded from earlier test cities, aims to boost comfort and safety, especially for late-night rides, and can be turned on in the app’s settings.
   

• 82 years after his plane was shot down in China, Jewish WWII pilot Morton Sher is laid to rest at home (forward.com) — Greenville recently welcomed home the remains of Jewish WWII pilot Lt. Morton Sher, finally laid to rest here on what would have been his 105th birthday. The Flying Tigers member grew up in Greenville, belonged to local Jewish organizations, and inspired relatives who shared how his long-awaited burial brought closure to the family and community.
   

• 240+ cats, dogs adopted in holiday campaign (charlestoncitypaper.com) — Greenville pet lovers helped 255 cats and dogs find homes this December through the Greenville Humane Society, mirroring a big holiday adoption push in Charleston and Berkeley counties. The campaign, part of “Home for the Holidays,” shows how shelters use festive deliveries and extra visibility to get animals out of cages and into local families’ homes.
