- The nearby Savannah Police Department is seeking assistance from the community in collecting back-to-school donations. The collection started on Jul. 1 and will run until Jul. 26. Donation boxes are available at all SPD precincts, and they are accepting a variety of items such as pencils, books, backpacks, rulers, and more to support students in need. (WJCL News Savannah)
- The Georgia State Patrol has identified the individual who tragically lost their life in a crash on Sunday that resulted in the temporary closure of a section of I-95. The crash occurred when a Chrysler Aspen swerved to avoid debris, lost control, and collided with a red Chevy Silverado in the far-right lane, causing both vehicles to overturn multiple times. The driver of the Chrysler, identified as Juatawna Kersey, 34, from Savannah, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, while five others, including a 2-year-old, sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital. The investigation is ongoing as authorities have discovered controlled substances originating from the Chrysler Aspen. (WJCL News Savannah)
