Here are the top three stories in Hilton Head today:

  1. Authorities in Beaufort County are currently investigating the death of a 25-year-old man on Hilton Head Island. Darryal Lamont Grant Jr.'s body was discovered near the treeline bordering Southwood Park Drive on Thursday morning. The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is treating the case as a homicide and is seeking help from local businesses for any video or evidence that may aid in their investigation. Those with information regarding the incident are urged to contact the authorities or Crimestoppers of the Lowcountry. (Live 5 News WCSC)
  2. The Lowcountry Food Bank (LCFB) has been selected as one of 25 food banks to receive a $496,908 grant from Feeding America's Food Security Equity Impact Fund. LCFB will partner with Gullah Farmers Cooperative to address food insecurity in southeastern South Carolina by advocating for change, developing solutions, and creating a more equitable food system. The grant will also help increase the capacity of African American and people of color-led producers to access the wholesale food market and expand the cooperative's membership to include new persons of color-led food producers and farmers. (Holy City Sinner -)
  3. Another book has been permanently removed from Beaufort County schools after a committee voted to ban "The Haters" by Jesse Andrews. This marks the third book out of the 97 initially reviewed to be permanently removed from shelves. The evaluation process, which began in October, has already resulted in the banning of "Nineteen Minutes" by Jodi Picoult and "It Ends With Us" by Colleen Hoover.
