- In recent months, the town of Hilton Head Island has spent $7 million to purchase land along Jonesville Road. Town leaders have not yet said what is planned for the 12 acres which have been purchased. Mayor Alan Perry explained that the property was acquired to protect the area from overdevelopment, although he did not rule out the possibility of using that land for affordable housing, which remains a high priority for the city council. - The 12th Annual Lowcountry Foundation for Wounded Heroes Tournament honored local veterans on Monday. While the event revolves around golf, camaraderie and fellowship are just as important to many attendees. The volunteer-run organization has given out more than $1.7 million to programs that aid veterans since it began 12 years ago. (WSAV)
- A fire took place on Monday at Whale Branch Early College High School in Beaufort County. Firefighters responded to the incident in Seabrook just before 5:00 p.m. and discovered the fire inside an athletic dryer. The sprinkler system was activated and helped to minimize the damage. There were no injuries reported, and investigators believe the fire was unintentional. (Live5News)
