  1. This week, dates were announced for the annual "Crescendo" celebration of arts and culture, returning from Oct. 7 through Nov. 18. The event will highlight the vast array of arts, culture, and history organizations, individual artists, performers, and authors residing and working on Hilton Head Island. The month-long celebration will feature cultural programs, concerts, theatrical productions, museum and gallery exhibits, lectures, poetry readings, dance performances, historical tours, and so much more. This year's event headliners that were announced this week include the Historic Mitchelville Film Festival (Oct. 25-26), Hilton Head Island Lantern Parade (Nov. 18), a new exhibition at the Coastal Discovery Museum entitled “Intricate Oceans: Coral in Contemporary Art," and more. 2. Last week, the Beaufort County School District received a $75,000 donation from the national convenience store company, Parker’s Kitchen. The donation came from the company’s "Fueling the Community" program, and part of the funds will be used to support the district’s annual “Support Person of the Year” recognition program. This program honors the hard-working school nurses, social workers, bookkeepers, office managers, teacher assistants, school secretaries, bus drivers, and technology and data specialists who make up County staff members. 3. Down the road in downtown Savannah, construction to repair the federal courthouse that collapsed last April has still not been completed. $70 million of funding from the General Services Administration was allocated for the project, all of which has been spent, with only 30 percent of the project being completed. The delays are frustrating local businesses that are being impacted by the road closures, construction zones, and other delays. The project's completion timeline was originally scheduled for 2023, but following the collapse, it’s expected to take until 2026. (WSAV)
