  1. Hilton Head Island will be celebrating its 40th anniversary (and 360th sighting) this month! From Aug. 26 to Sep. 16, the town will host several events that are free and open to residents, including a community picnic, historical tours, and live music. The Hilton Head community is invited to submit event proposals, memories, and photos at the link. (Hilton Head Island 360/40)
  2. Rapper Snoop Dogg has come to the aid of a 93-year-old woman facing eviction from her family's historic home in South Carolina by donating $10,000 to her GoFundMe campaign. The rapper expressed that the woman, Josephine Wright, reminded him of his mother and grandmother, inspiring his contribution. The fundraiser has received overwhelming support, nearing its $350,000 goal with the support of some notable celebrities. (Longview News-Journal)
  3. This school year, over 20 schools in Beaufort County School District will offer free breakfasts and lunches, starting Monday, Aug. 31. This initiative is made possible through the federally funded Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) to support students from low-income families. Local schools that will provide free meals include Hilton Head Island Early Childhood Center, Hilton Head Island Middle School, and Hilton Head Island School for Creative Arts. (Bluffton Today)

  • The Woods Memorial Bridge in Beaufort temporarily shut down Tuesday morning due to a malfunction, forcing motorists to use the McTeer Bridge. The bridge reopened less than two hours later. (WJCL News Savannah)
  • With August upon us, the Lowcountry has several upcoming arts and music events to add to your calendar. Some of Hilton Head's offerings include free jazz concerts at Lowcountry Celebration Park and a new 'Aquascapes' art exhibit with the Art League of Hilton Head Gallery.
