Here are the top three stories today in Hilton Head:

  1. On Tuesday, Apr. 18, a marine recruit tragically passed away while completing a physical fitness test at boot camp in South Carolina. The recruit was confirmed to be 21-year-old Noah Evans who ended up passing away at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island located in Beaufort County. The specific cause of his death has not been released and is still being investigated. (Marine Corps Times)
  2. The family of Nancy Ann Jackson Becker, the woman who died of an alligator attack, is now filing a lawsuit against the retirement community she lived in. The 88-year-old woman died on Monday, Aug. 15, 2022, outside of her home in Sun City Hilton Head. It was reported the alligator was guarding her body before it fled, but the family is claiming the retirement community didn't take the appropriate measures to save Nancy's life from an attack of this nature. (MEAWW)
  3. A 23-year-old Beaufort County man will serve 14 years in federal prison for the possession of child pornography. There was at least five years' worth of evidence showing that Leonardo Rubio sought, received, produced, and distributed various images as well as videos using different cell phones, social media applications, and online storage. A search warrant was issued for Rubio's home located at the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort after the Naval Criminal Investigative Services received a tip from an online cloud storage company showing at least 10 images that had been uploaded.
