Here are the top three stories in Hilton Head today:
- The rental market in Hilton Head is still experiencing high prices, despite cooling down from pandemic peaks. Rentometer's president, Mike Lapsley, says the high demand for housing will continue for some time, especially during peak moving season from April to October. Lapsley advises single-family-home renters to act quickly, while apartment renters should shop around and consider negotiating with high-inventory complexes. (WJCL News Savannah)
- The town of Hilton Head has agreed to purchase 7.19 acres of land near Cross Island Parkway for workforce housing as part of its action plan. The purchase is expected to close before July 6 and will be a public-private partnership, according to Mayor Alan Perry. (WTOC)
- South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster signed a bill into law that will allow up to 15,000 students to use public money for private schools. The law will establish education scholarship accounts that offer up to $6,000 annually to pay for tuition, transportation, supplies, or technology. However, opponents plan to challenge the bill in court as it goes against the South Carolina constitution which prohibits using public money to benefit private educational institutions.
