2 Lexington Men Face More Charges After Stolen Goods Found

Two men are accused of possessing a stolen lawnmower, handgun and motorcycle license plate.

More charges have been filed against two Lexington men who were being held Tuesday at the Lexington County Detention Center for previous crimes.

Travis Leon Horton and Charles Heyward Spires Jr., both 26, were each charged Tuesday with one count of receiving stolen goods. The two are accused of possessing one Craftsman riding lawnmower, one 9-mm Diamondback handgun and one motorcycle license plate, all of which were reported stolen, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Detectives say the three items — the riding lawnmower that had been reported stolen on August 27 from a home near Lexington, the handgun that had been reported stolen on June 15 from a home near Pelion and the license plate that had been reported stolen from a parking lot near Lexington — were found while police executed a search warrant at Horton’s home.

Horton allegedly bought the lawnmower and handgun from Spires, knowing that the items had been reported stolen, according to the department. Detectives said he also accepted the stolen license plate from Spires and placed the license plate on his motorcycle.

Horton was arrested on Sept. 4 on multiple charges including third-offense manufacturing methamphetamine, third-offense possession of methamphetamine, third-offense possession of heroin, and third-offense possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. He was being held at the detention center on a bail of $105,000.
