Town of Lexington looks to set standards for park safety (lexingtonchronicle.com) — Lexington officials are moving toward new, standardized safety rules for most town parks, including set hours, leash requirements, and bans on alcohol without approval, loud behavior, and certain activities and equipment. Old Mill Trail and Paw Park will keep their own separate rules, while council members emphasize clearer signage and a “use at your own risk” approach to protect taxpayers and visitors.
   

2. Nine Lake Murray Teams Appear in Preseason Wrestling Polls (thenewirmonews.com) — Lexington High’s wrestling team opens the season ranked 11th in Class 5A Division I, leading a strong Lake Murray contingent in the statewide preseason polls. Nearby rivals River Bluff, Dutch Fork, White Knoll, Gilbert, Pelion, Swansea, and Mid-Carolina also earned rankings, signaling a highly competitive local wrestling season ahead for Lexington-area fans.
   

3. Lexington One parents worried about too much testing in elementary school (wltx.com) — Lexington One parents are pressing the school board to reduce what they see as excessive testing and a too-fast curriculum for elementary students, especially third graders. District leaders acknowledge recent statewide and local changes, saying new standards and grading policies have made assessments more visible, and they’re inviting families to meet one-on-one with principals and administrators.
   

4. Lexington County led S.C. in number of criminal sexual contact cases, 2024 SLED report shows (lexingtonchronicle.com) — Lexington County recorded the highest number of criminal sexual contact cases in South Carolina for 2024, even though its overall crime levels remain relatively low compared with other counties. A new SLED report shows 252 such cases and a low 16% clearance rate, while also noting some local agencies, including Lexington State Transport Police, were not fully compliant in reporting data.
   

5. 15 tons of illegal products seized in ‘Ganjapreneur' investigation, authorities announce (lexingtonchronicle.com) — Lexington-area residents are tied to a major statewide crackdown in which authorities seized 15 tons of illegal THC products and indicted 12 alleged wholesale distributors. A Lexington Republican lawmaker is pushing tighter rules on hemp-derived products, while Lexington County deputies joined state and federal agencies in the investigation aimed at curbing potent items marketed toward children.
