Update: Man Who Killed Emma Longstreet Sentenced to 9 Years

A judge sentenced Billy Patrick Hutto Jr., 28, to 9 years in prison for the fatal DUI crash that killed Emma Longstreet.

Update, 8 p.m.: The man charged in the death of 6-year-old Emma Longstreet on New Year's Day 2012 was sentenced Monday in court to 9 years in prison. 

Billy Patrick Hutto Jr., 28, pleaded guilty to two felony driving under the influence charges for his role in the death of Emma Longstreet, a 6-year-old Lexington girl who was on the way to church with her family on the morning of January 1, 2012 when Hutto crashed into the family's van.

The judge sentenced Hutto to 10 years for the felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury and to 9 years for the felony DUI resulting in death. The two sentences are to be served concurrently.

Hutto is eligible for parole on the felony DUI charge resulting in great bodily injury but not on the felony DUI resulting in death. He has already served 19 months of his sentence.

The judge sentenced Hutto after more than four hours of emotional statements from family and friends of Emma Longstreet and of Hutto. 

Update, 5:35 p.m.
: The man charged in the death of 6-year-old Emma Longstreet is pleading guilty to two counts of felony driving under the influence.

Billy Patrick Hutto, 28, is in Lexington County court awaiting a sentence from the judge.

Several of Emma Longstreet's family members have shared their emotional stories, including her parents.

"It's been very difficult not seeing my little Emma every day," said Emma's father David Longstreet. "I didn't even get to hug her goodbye that day."

Hutto is charged with felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury and felony DUI resulting in death. A judge will sentence Hutto today.

Original story: The man charged with felony driving under the influence in a 2012 crash that killed 6-year-old Emma Longstreet will appear in court Monday afternoon.

Billy Patrick Hutto, 28, will plead guilty to the felony DUI charge, according to a post on the Emma Longstreet Memorial Fund Facebook page. A judge will sentence him.

The plea and sentencing starts at 2 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Lexington County courthouse at 205 East Main St.
