Update: Coroner IDs Motorcyclist Who Died in Crash on US 1 in Lexington

The crash happened around 1:55 p.m. at Charter Oak Road.

A motorcyclist died after wrecking with a car on U.S. 1 in Lexington Saturday afternoon, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. 

George W. Schurg, 52, of Lexington crashed around 1:55 p.m. on U.S. 1 at Charter Oak Road, according to the Lexington County Coroner's Office.

Schurg was traveling south and ran into a 1988 Plymouth that was traveling north and trying to turn left onto Charter Oak Road, said Lance Cpl. Judd Jones with the highway patrol.

Schurg was not wearing a helmet, Jones said, and was transported to Palmetto Richland where he died from his injuries. 

The driver of the Plymouth was not injured, Jones said.

The highway patrol is investigating the crash.
