Town Council Considers Changes to Downtown Properties

A zoning change and potential property sale come before council Tuesday.

Lexington Town Council has called a special meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday to consider changes to several downtown properties.

Town officials will consider on first reading rezoning its properties at 206 and 212 Church St., where the Liverman Hospital sits as well as an adjacent property.

The property includes 1.88 acres and a prospective buyer, who wants to close quickly on the property and build a four-story apartment complex, has offered $800,000.

According to town documents, Connelly Development LLC has submitted a request to rezone the two properties from general commercial to high-density residential. The planning commission in January recommended against rezoning.

A final reading will also be held on selling the town's property at 227 N. Lake Drive, where the LICS food pantry was once located.
